CYLA ADOPTS US LACROSSE AGE-BASED TEAMS
by posted 11/01/2011

On October 27, 2011 the Colorado Youth Lacrosse Association adopted several national youth rules recommendatons for boys issued by US Lacrosse.  The major rule change will be the shift from grade-based teams to age-based teams.  The CYLA also added age groups to even, as well as odd years.  The age cut-off date is August 31st prior to the spring season.
The age divisions will be:

The main intention of going to age-based was for safety concerns.  The CYLA adopted several other rules offered by US Lacrosse, that will move organizations toward a national standard for youth rules.

A complete explanation of the age-based format, as well as a summary of rules adopted by the CYLA is in the following document:

The Coloado Girls Lacrosse Association has also voted in favor of age-based teams and more information will be forthcoming.

RULE CHANGES FOR 2012
by posted 10/05/2011

Colorado Youth Lacrosse League enacts club transfer rule:

The governing body for boys youth lacrosse in Colorado enacted Rule 1.2.2.d - the Player Transfer Rule.  All players wishing to transfer clubs must contact both their home club administrator (the club they played for in the most recent season) and the new club administrator.  If the home club administrator objects to the transfer, the request is automatically reviewed and voted on by the CYLA Executive Commitee.

The intent of the rule is monitor and, in some cases, prevent large scale recruiting by teams/clubs for the spring season.  This does not affect tournament teams that form outside the CYLA league schedule, other than the Jamboree tournament (which only allows teams that played together in CYLA spring season).  Information and transfer requests can be found:

The CYLA is also reviewing youth rules recently issued by US Lacrosse for possible adoption in boys youth lacrosse in Colorado.
