Storm Boys Red Level Tryouts Will Be on 9/24 and 10/1

Boys Red Level Tryouts for the Spring 2018 Season will be held on Sunday, September 24th and Sunday, October 1st at Pennington Elementary, 4617 Independence St., Wheat Ridge, CO.

All registered participants are required to attend both tryout dates.  You must register online for these tryouts at www.rockymountainstormlacrosse.com using the “Register Online” link on the left menu bar.  Current US Lacrosse membership is required.

Rocky Mountain Storm Lacrosse Club is a member of the Colorado Youth Lacrosse Association (CYLA) that provides boys lacrosse around the State of Colorado.  CYLA has three divisions to cover different levels of competition.  The Red Level is the most competitive level, the White Level is the intermediate competition level, and the Blue Level is the recreational competition level.  White and Blue Level Player Evaluations, including U10 Player Evaluations, will be conducted in January/February of 2018.

Red Level Tryout Times will be 8am – 9:30am for U11 and U13 Age Groups, and 9:30am – 11:00am for U12 and U15 Age Groups.

Full equipment is required for all player evaluations including legal stick, helmet, gloves, arm guards, shoulder pads, cup, and mouthguard.  Rib pads and cleats are also recommended.

Tryouts will be moved to another location if rain or light snow is falling.  The Age Group Divisions that will be participating in the Red Level Tryouts are listed below:

CYLA AGE-BASED BIRTH DATE RANGES

U11:  born on or after June 1, 2006

U12:  born on or after June 1, 2005

Special U10 Introduction to Tryouts Session

This year we will be offering a new session for U10 boys players to introduce them to tryouts.  We will put the boys through the same progression of drills that they will experience this coming January during the official U10 tryouts.  The players will learn what they will be judged on and what to expect.  This session will only be offered once AND HAS BEEN CHANGED TO Sunday, October 1st from 11am - 12pm.  There is no need for U10s to register for this session, just show up early, watch the older boys tryout, and get dressed and ready for your session.  Full equipment is required for participation.

If you are interested in trying out for a Red Level Team, please register as soon as possible!

CYLA Boys Lacrosse Age Eligibility Rules

UPDATED for Fall 2017 and Spring 2018: The CYLA (Colorado Youth Lacrosse Association) will continue to use June 1st as the cutoff date for boys lacrosse age-based classification.

The CYLA has permanently adopted US Lacrosse guidelines regarding age-based classification.  Therefore, Rocky Mountain Storm Lacrosse Club will group teams on the basis of grade with an age cutoff.

Players in the same grade will generally be grouped together, provided that they meet the June 1 birth date cutoff for that age group.  All players are required to provide official proof of birth date (birth certificate, passport, adoption papers, etc) before participating in sanctioned CYLA games.

We will set up teams at U15, U13, U12, U11, U10, U9, U8, and U7 for the 2017 Spring Season.  All current 8th graders are eligible to play, regardless of birthdate.  No high school players are permitted to participate.

A player's eligibility for the 2018 Spring Season is determined by his age on May 31, 2017.

  • For example, any player born on or after June 1, 2004 is eligible to play U13.

  • A player born on or before May 31, 2004 is not eligible to play U13 and must play U15.

  • In general, we will group players on the basis of "Grade with an Age Cutoff."  This means that players in the same grade will be grouped on teams at the same age level, provided that they meet the June 1st cutoff date.

  • Players who are "young" for their grade will still be permitted to play at that age level.  For example, a 4th grader who is age-eligible for U9 (ie born after 6/1/2008) can still play U10.

NO PLAYER WILL BE PERMITTED TO "PLAY DOWN" IN AGE CLASSIFICATION AS PER CYLA RULES-- NO EXCEPTIONS.
